Last week I did a photography course with a Lonely Planet photographer and it was fabulous.
I learned a lot. Ironically, my photos during the course were worse than when I generally just wander around. I think it was because I was trying to apply too many new skills at once. I also suffered from my $10 China-special tripod. The teacher approached me as soon as I pulled it out and told me that if I ever wanted to take a good photo, I needed a new one. I couldn’t extend it to its full height as it was unable to support the weight of my camera, which meant I spent a lot of time crawling around on my knees…
The course finished watching Melbourne’s skyline as it became night. What a fantastic experience. Here is a snippet of these photos for you to enjoy too. The tripod (or its newer cousin) will have to make many more appearances I think!

Wow, that is a stunning city night shot… I agree with your instructor, a good tripod is worth its weight in gold, well maybe not exactly, but its worth a lot. Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #55!
Yes, it might have to be a Christmas present to myself!
Oooh, these are fantastic!
